In the Academy of Communication Arts and Design, students will gain fundamental workplace skills, technical application skills, and interpersonal skills necessary to enter and succeed in diverse careers associated with graphic design and print communications industry. 

ACAD students will learn about artistic expression, graphic design, machinery operation, desktop publishing, photography, camera equipment, digital printing, image assembly, offset processes, print journalism, screen printing, laser engraving, teamwork, problem solving, and communications skills necessary in today’s modern graphic design and printing communications facilities. Students will gain valuable experience while using Adobe Creative Cloud, a collection of software used for graphic design, video editing, web development, photography, along with a set of mobile applications. They will have the opportunity to master those skills and become Adobe Certified in Photoshop and Illustrator.

While Graphics is our main focus, Marketing, Art, Journalism, and Audio Video Film Technology are the pillars of our program. Students will be given the opportunity to choose a focus area while also taking the other classes as a supplement. 

Students in the academy will also investigate career options through internships and work-based learning. Students will gain experiences in leadership, teamwork, citizenship, and character development through participation in SkillsUSA and DECA amongst other clubs and activities at Kendrick High School.
